Apr 19, 2012 - StaffFuneral services for Maria E. "Mary" Martinez, 91, are at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Riverton with Father Demetrio Penascozo officiating. Interment follows at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
A rosary is at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.
Mrs. Martinez died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton.
She was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Mora, N.M., the daughter of Juan P. and Eugenia (Vargas) Montoya. She moved with her family to Riverton in 1936 and attended the Riverton schools.
On Dec. 2, 1939, she married Eualio "Eddie" Martinez in Riverton.
Mrs. Martinez was a supervisor of laundry services at Riverton Memorial Hospital for more than 20 years before retiring in 1981.
Her family said that Mrs. Martinez enjoyed embroidery, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and following them in their sporting events.
Survivors include her sons, Lee Martinez and his wife Pamela of Riverton, John Martinez and his wife Marlene of Riverton; two daughters Josie Meekins and her husband Harry of Riverton, and Esther Manzanares and her husband Leroy of Riverton; a brother, Sam Montoya and his wife Carlida of Kearns, Utah; a sister, Emily Murphy of Rapid City, S.D.; 15 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Martinez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie, in 1979; brothers John, Conrad, Albert and Joe Montoya; sister Rosie Perea; grandson James Douglas Manzanares; granddaughters Samantha Meekins and Gina Marie Althoff; great-granddaughter Kayla Martinez, and great-great grandson Kota James Martinez.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the the donor's choice in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main St., Riverton, WY 82501.
