Private EMS provider on job search for new directo

Oct 12, 2017 By Daniel Bendtsen, Staff Writer

Guardian EMS, the private company that handles Fremont County ambulance services, is searching for a new local director.

The search comes after the brief tenure of Andrea Abbas, who was hired out of Michigan in March and resigned near the end of the summer.

Matt Strauss, the company's regional director in Green River, said a pool of 15 applicants from across the country has been identified, and he hopes to fill the position within a couple weeks.

After taking over the county's ambulances services from Fremont County government in July 2016, Guardian had been somewhat short-staffed in its first few months.

However, Strauss said that issue has subsided, and all basic EMT positions are now filled.

Guardian Flight recently has taken over air ambulance operations in Cody as well. Strauss said that, when necessary, the Cody based crews will also be able to serve Dubois from their headquarters in Park County.

Hoping to save on costs, the Fremont County Commission began leasing the ambulance service out last year.

After the end of its five-year lease, the county has an option to sell the service entirely, or return to county management of the EMS service.
