Second Street rebuild latest 1 percent jobOct 4, 2017 By Alejandra Silva, Staff Writer
Revenue from Fremont County's optional 1 percent sales tax continues to fund small and major street projects in Riverton.
Dave's Asphalt is leading major reconstruction work on North Second Street West, between Pershing Avenue and Sunset Drive.
Public works director Kyle Butterfield said that for a price tag of $525,000 the work includes the replacement of undersized water lines and sewer lines, improved asphalt surfacing and new sub grades.
New utilities underneath were completed by subcontractors working with Dave's Asphalt.
The project will help meet current standards and improve sewer capabilities for residents.
"It will bring a good benefit to those residents and the community around it," Butterfield said.
The street improvements also will benefit Sunset Park due to the high traffic the area tends to see, Butterfield noted.
Recent colder weather delayed the construction, but work has resumed and is expected to be completed soon.
The job began in August.
The city's Fix Our Roads Citizens Committee continues meeting to plan out 1 percent projects for the next construction season.
Butterfield said FORCC has prioritized its list, and now his department will go over the plans.
"We're at the tail end of the construction season now," Butterfield said. "It's too late to start anything."
The committee and city staff are looking forward to more projects that will improve Riverton and continue to make good use
