Wolverines jump into league playSep 27, 2017 By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer
Essentially, preseason is over.
For the rest of the regular season, the Riverton Lady Wolverines volleyball team will play only Class 3-A West conference opponents and after going 3-2 against Class 4-A teams last weekend at the Casper Invitational. It may be just the right time for Riverton to find its stride.
"Now it's time for business," said Riverton head coach Trista Day.
On Thursday and Saturday, "business" will take place in Cody and Powell, respectively, as the Lady Wolverines begin the meat of their Class 3-A West conference schedule.
"In Casper, the girls made some gains," said Day. "We've been working really hard on our defense and return of serve."
Day said Skyler Smith, Ella Hauck and Taylenn Thompson played well defensively in Casper.
The Lady Wolverines, who will travel to Cody and come home Thursday night only to travel to Park County again to play Powell on Saturday, have yet to play Cody this year.
Riverton lost to Powell twice in the season-opening McDonald's Tournament played in Wolverine Gym.
"Against Cody, we're going in blind. They beat Powell in four games and Powell beat us," said Day. "If we play like we did this weekend, we'll be OK."
