The Class 3-A Riverton Lady Wolverines played only Class 4-A schools on Friday and Saturday at the Casper Invitational volleyball tournament and finished with a 3-2 record.

Of note, two of Riverton's wins were over teams ranked in the top-five in the most recent Class 4-A media poll.

The tournament was played at the Casper Events Center. With four courts on the floor, it's a good tune-up for the state tournament which will be played at the site Nov. 2-4.

On Friday, the Lady Wolverines opened play with a 2-0 win Green River, the tied-for-fifth ranked team in Class 4-A, lost to Kelly Walsh 2-0, the top- ranked team in Class 4-A and ended pool play with a 2-0 sweep over Cheyenne South.

On Saturday, Riverton opened with a 2-0 loss to the third-ranked team in Class 4-A Laramie and ended the tournament with an impressive 2-1 victory over Natrona, also tied for fifth in Class 4-A.

Skyler Smith led Riverton in the tournament with five service aces. Naya Shime registered 46 weekend kills, Smith also led the Lady Wolverines with 10 blocks, Hannah Reinig tallied 51 assists and Ella Hauck scored 34 digs.

Rawlins, the top-ranked team in Class 3-A, upset the top team in Class 4-A, Kelly Walsh, 2-1 during gold bracket play. Ultimately, Cheyenne East defeated Laramie for the gold bracket championship on Saturday evening.

The Lady Wolverine volleyballers have an odd travel week ahead.

On Thursday, Riverton will head to Cody for a 6 p.m. varsity contest and then return home only to board the bus again Saturday to head back to Park County, this time for a 1 p.m. match at Powell.
