Rams roughed up by Rebels, weather

Sep 17, 2017 By Randy Tucker, Staff Writer

A thunderstorm rolled in from the mountains with 2:51 remaining in the second period, canceling a Class 1-A West 6-man game between Dubois and visiting Riverside.

The Rebels won, 33-6, in the adverse conditions and officials decided not to continue play with lightning striking all around the stadium.

The game started at 5 p.m. and without lights, couldn't be continued even if the weather cleared.

The Rebels picked up their second win of the season, while the Rams remain winless in three attempts.

Ryan Vigil scampered 19 yards for the game's first score, followed a few minutes later by a nine-yard run from Sterling Foss for a 12-0 lead.

The ensuing kickoff pinned Dubois deep and after three plays for minimal gain, they set to punt the ball away, but the snap sailed out of the back of the end zone for a safety, followed by a 44-yard run by Tate Clutter after the Rams had to kick back to the Rebels.

Dubois scored after trailing 21-0 on a 20-yard Warren Johnson run on the following series.

Riverside added another score on an 11-yard run by Foss to lead 27-6at the end of the opening period.

Dubois improved play in the second and began to move the ball, but the menacing weather became a factor in the game.

Riverside scored on a pass from Justen Miller to Vigil from the 20-yard line for the game's final score and officials sent both teams home as the storm hit the field.

Dubois was inside the 10-yard line when the game was called, poised to score.

Riverside doubled the Rams in offensive yards, 238-121, with 213 of those coming on the ground.

Riverside hosts Meeteetse next Friday, while Dubois has a tough opponent on the road at Baggs against Little Snake River.
