Lady Tigers continue losing streak

Sep 12, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor

On the season's opening weekend at the McDonald's Invitational in Riverton, the Lady Tigers of Lander defeated Wind River in their opening match of the new campaign.

However, Lander hasn't tasted victory since, a streak which continued at the Rawlins Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

In fact, the Lady Tigers had failed to win even a single set until they broke through in a three-set loss to Thermopolis on Saturday in silver-bracket play after losing all three preliminary-round contests on Friday.

Lander lost to Worland, 2-0 (21-14, 21-19), Lyman, 2-0 (21-8, 21-9) and Douglas, 2-0 (21-14, 21-6), which relegated head coach Marissa Powell's club to the loser's bracket for the second day of competition.

Abby Renner's six kills against the Lady Warriors was the top Tigers' performance on the first day.

Saturday

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers' bad fortune continued in the silver bracket.

First up were the Lady Wranglers of Pinedale, who defeated Lander, 2-0 (21-19, 21-9), followed by a loss to Thermopolis, 2-1 (21-10, 17-21, 15-13).

Lander (1-11) will next host Fremont County rivals Riverton on Thursday.
