Riverton school district hires new nurse before classes start

Sep 8, 2017 By Daniel Bendtsen, Staff Writer

In the month leading up to the new school year, the Riverton school district was in a desperate search to find a new nurse for the high school.

Despite the time crunch, superintendent Terry Snyder expressed confidence in early August that his staff would pull through in hiring someone.

He was right, and the school board was able to offer a contract to Katsie McConnaughey on Aug. 22, the day school started.

School districts aren't obligated by law to have a nurse on staff, but Snyder said it's vitally important, especially with modern expectations to handle issues of prescription medications.

"We aren't require to have one, but that being said, we really have to have one," he said.
