Rams bucked by Kaycee, 79-6

In 6-man football things can go south in a hurry.

When you're playing the defending state champions returning almost their entire squad for another season, it's doubly difficult.

The Kaycee Buckaroos made the long trip to Dubois on Friday afternoon and walloped the Rams 79-6.

Kaycee led 20-0 and only ran one offensive play in the opening three minutes of the game.

Senior Danny Ramirez returned the opening kickoff 74 yards, followed by a 17-yard punt return for a second score by Hunter Rouse.

The Kaycee offense finally took the field with 7:10 on the first period clock and Ramirez promptly scored on a 25-yard pass from Atticus Garrett.

The Buckaroos eventually built a commanding 27-0 lead at the end of the first period, then poured in 33 more in the second to hold a 60-0 advantage at the half.

Ramirez finished the game with four scoring runs, one pass reception for a score and the kickoff return for the game's initial touchdown.

The onslaught was difficult to slow down, much less stop for the Rams and offensively, Dubois struggled with ball carriers and passers quickly engulfed when blocks were missed up front.

The Rams finally found the scoreboard in the third period when Justin Poppe connected with Warren Johnson for a 17-yard touchdown pass.

Tired and bedraggled, the Rams gave up 19 fourth-quarter points with the clock in constant motion due to the mercy rule.

Kaycee's reserves tallied all three final scores with Eric Cleveland crashing in from the 1-yard line and Dylan Fauber scoring on an eight-yard run off-tackle.

Fauber's score came with 0:17 left in the contest and Jarrett Humble added a final touchdown 12 seconds later when he intercepted a Dubois pass and took it into the end zone with five ticks left on the clock.

"We have some ability," said Dubois head coach David Trembly. "We just need to get people in the right spots."
