Riverton swimmers splash in LanderAug 31, 2017 By Scott Akanewich, Sports Editor
When Josie Dike hits the pool, she means business.
Riverton's starlet of the water was victorious at the Bruce Gresly Pentathlon in Lander on Saturday with a spectacular performance in winning a pair of events and finishing in the top five in three others.
For starters, Dike won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:07.15, just ahead of Wolverines teammate Kaylie Gopp, who was second in 1:07.19.
Dike also won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.73.
She wasn't done there.
Riverton's all-state splasher went on to finish on the podium in the 100-yard backstroke (fourth, 1:06.40), 50-yard freestyle (fourth, 27.21) and 1-meter diving (fifth, 134.85).
Dike's total of 209 points on the day was enough to win the competition.
However, Gopp wasn't left out of the mix, finishing fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.54), eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.44) and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.26) in addition to her runner-up effort in the 100-yard butterfly.
All of Dike's and Gopp's times in their respective events were good enough for Class 4-A state qualifying standards.
Jordan Lewis finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.83, which also was a state-qualifying time.
On Friday, the Lady Wolverines finished third as a team at the Lander Relays with a total of 189 points, behind winners Green River (340) and Lander (337).
This Friday and Saturday, the Lady Wolverines host two swim meets at the Riverton Aquatic Center. The Lander Lady Tigers come to town Friday for a dual meet and Saturday swimmers from Douglas, Rawlins and Powell will compete with the Lady Wolverines.
