The longtime Riverton assistant will replace former head coach Stuart Mullins.

Former Wind River High School head basketball coach and longtime Riverton High School assistant boys basketball coach Beau Sheets will become the head boys basketball coach at RHS, pending approval by the Riverton School Board.

Sheets replaces Stuart Mullins, who resigned after leading the Wolverines to their first state boys basketball title in school history.

"We are excited," said Sheets on Friday afternoon. "I think the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is continuing to do what we have been doing with coach Quayle and coach Mullins for the last six years. We're in a good place and hopefully we can raise the bar a little bit more."

Sheets played both basketball and football while a student at Chadron State College and was a Class 4-A head boys basketball coach in Colby, Kansas prior to his two-year coaching stint at Wind River High School.

"We couldn't be happier. We've found a good replacement for Stuart," said RHS activities director Reggie Miller. "Beau has tremendous basketball knowledge and we're pleased with what he'll bring to kids both on the court and outside of basketball."

Sheets has also been a six-year assistant coach and offensive coordinator in the RHS football program and after July 4th, will work with Miller and head football coach Pat Patterson to work out details of other coaching responsibilities.

"There are a lot of details to figure out," said Sheets. "I love being the offensive coordinator and we've had a great time (in football)."

Sheets will be looking to hire one assistant basketball coach to work with former head coach Dick Quayle on the Wolverines' staff.

So far this offseason, Sheets has traveled with the Wolverines to basketball camps in Billings, Cheyenne, Casper and in Riverton and will continue to host open gyms throughout the summer.

"The good part is the transition from Stuart to Beau will be good for the kids," said Miller. "They were together for a long time which, I think, will be great for the team."

Sheets is a math teacher at Riverton High School.
