Record snow

Dec 27, 2016 Photo by Steve Peck

Christmas Day snowfall in Riverton surpassed the two previous records for the date combined. Not since the 1940s had the city seen snowfall on Dec. 25 of more than 4 inches. Sunday's storm dumped 10 inches in central Riverton, and the total at the National Weather Service station near Riverton Regional measured just short of 8 inches. Unofficial spotters reported as much as 12 inches. With the holiday over, snow removal workers have been hard at work since Monday. This truck plowed near the intersection of Pioneer and Homestead avenues in west Riverton.
